  •  Learning from River of Light  

This workshop is a process of reflection by some of the participants and agents responsible for realizing the ‘River of Light’ project since the 2015-16 academic year. Through the workshop we invite the stakeholders, activists and participants to reflect on their experience, and consider what the Open Up workshops might learn from this project and its workshop activities.

  •  Learning from the Support Group Network 

We invite people who have initiated, been active within and partnered with the Support Group Network project (a self-organized initiative by migrants and asylum seekers for migrants and asylum seekers) to reflect on their experience, and consider what may be learned from this project and its activities in outreach, artistic processes and self-enabling. An important aspect of the Support Group Network has been its resistance to ‘charity’ and ‘missionary’ work by NGOs and others, insisting on the self-representation and self-determination of refugees, migrants and asylum-seekers.

  • What is your creative practice?#1 “Young, Queer and Talented”

Show and tell from existing practitioners: Makers meeting makers, showing each other what we are doing. This event invites people with creative practice to show and tell about what they do. In return for sharing their practices we offer (i) chance to meet established practitioners (ii) some information on business models for small-scale creative practice and how to set up self-employment, tax returns etc. and (iii) opportunity to identify issues that a future workshop could usefully address.

  • What is your creative practice?#2 “We Work With Textiles”  

Show and tell from existing practitioners working with textiles and weaving: We are makers meeting makers, showing each other what we are doing. The workshop offers (i) a chance to meet established textile practitioners (ii) to look at places to access materials, resources, production support, further skills development and educational access; and (iii) to look at different ways of profiling, distributing, and marketing work.

  • The Cooperative Business Model & Social Enterprise in Sweden 

A workshop that looks at how the cooperative business organisation model works for creative practices, including a chance to meet people already using these models.

  • What is your creative practice?#3 “We DIY This in Gothenburg”

Show and tell from existing practitioners working with different aspects of graphics, comics, clothing and fashion, online gaming and related content.  We are “do-it-yourself” makers working in Gothenburg and the wider region, who come together to show each other what we are doing and to think about how we can distribute and profile what we do more. The workshop offers (i) a chance to meet established solo practitioners and small DIY enterprise (ii) to look at places to access materials, resources, production support, further skills development and educational access; and (iii) to look at different ways of profiling, distributing, and marketing work.

  • “Look at what I can do!” Online presence for creative practitioners

This is a skills development workshop looking at the strategies and techniques for augmenting online presence and visibility for creative practitioners using a combination of social media and other tools to optimize visibility in the digital realm locally and internationally.

  •  Can I Study More? How to access further creative education based on international qualifications and prior learning.

This workshop focusses on what options there are for further study in creative arts, design, performing arts and how prior learning and experience in different international contexts can be used to support application for further study.
